THE OBJECTIVE OF SOCIAL OUTREACH OF SPCMC, RODDUR

The vision of Roddur, a social outreach initiative of St Paul’s Cathedral Mission College is an extension of the teachings of Jesus Christ as written by Apostle Paul about the centrality of needy, underprivileged, marginalised people around us. The focus of this project is the children of street dwellers living on pavements in the vicinity of the college. The Students Christian Movement of the college has annually made efforts to invite these children to the campus during Christmas celebrations to show their love and compassion during the festive season. The need is however felt to partner with all stakeholders in the College family to extend and consolidate this commitment.

The College family feels that it is time to take up committed, sustained effort to encourage these children to pursue their studies in the schools that they attend along with helping them through a flexible, informal curriculum that aims at holistic development of their personalities. This would include familiarising them with the basic knowledge their varied age group is required to have. Our weekly lessons would aim at making lessons fun by reaching out and making them feel welcome in our big beautiful campus on Saturdays for an hour. We plan on teaching them through worksheets, colourful charts, workshops on art and craft and teaching them to communicate effectively.

We understand that this project might face some setbacks occasionally but we want to make a humble beginning by encouraging our students take up this cause with commitment. Our teachers will oversee these classes and keep the parents of these children updated about the progress of their children. This endeavour is a small step for the College family to reach out and be a beacon of hope to these children who might one day dream to be students of this great 150 year old institution that has always been at the forefront of helping students from financially weak backgrounds. 

Following the verse from Philippians 3:14 which is our college motto, I Press on towards the mark to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. So shall our College family!
