ZOOLOGY COURSE AT A GLANCE

CBCS Zoology General syllabus had three types of course: Core Course, Discipline Specific Electives and Skill Enhancement Course. There are four Core Course papers in Theory and four papers in Practical to cover 1st and 2nd years i.e; total four semesters( two semesters in each year). Animal Diversity which is the base of this subject is selected as the core course topic for semester I. Without this topic the subject is meaningless as well as incomplete. This is the portion where a student will get a chance to know about our greater animal world. They can develop their knowledge about marine  underwater world by identifying the specimens in their practical class. 2nd semester covers Comparative Anatomy and Developmental Biology. This topic give them chance to gather knowledge about the birth and different systems of the body of an animal. In practical classes they can have hand on experiences about the detailed anatomy of an animal by dissecting it out. Semester III and semester IV cover Physiology & Biochemistry and Genetics & Evolutionary biology respectively. Here students have a scope to gather their knowledge in molecular level and also about their origin. DSE or Discipline Specific Elective course offers the topics like Applied Zoology , Ecology and Wildlife , Aquatic Biology and Biology of Insect. Among these four the students of our college have the opportunity to grab the topics like Applied Biology for semester V and Ecology & Wildlife Biology for semester VI. Both topics have great scope in job purpose as well as research purpose. Now a days applied biology offers job like Poultry farming, fishery, bee keeping and Honey processing etc. Ecology and Wildlife Biology has a great contribution in awareness of students about our wildlife & environment. Also this topic is much demanded in research work in present days. Among four Skill Enhancemennt Papers (SEC) , our students have the topics like Aquarium Fishery and Sericulture in semester IV and semester V respectively. In present time, aquarium fish keeping is a beneficiary business in market. Sericulture is also valuable topic as silk production industry is doing good always in profit making. So, both the topics have scope to do something by own for the students in future. Not only that, but also these papers are scoring papers. Therefore students can make good results also by opting these papers.

At present as per UGC norms we are following NEP system. In this pattern we have covered only semester I and II offer Cell Biology and Biochemistry respectively. In semester I students also had SEC paper on Applied Biology. In NEP system the students from different background except ZOOLOGY can choose Zoology as their IDC paper. In IDC paper they have to cover Animal Biology as per their syllabus.

ZOOLOGY- the subject itself has high demand due to its well expanded valuable work area. All the topics which are covered by present CBCS syllabus have the future opportunity to do business/ job or research  or both  in large scale.
